Design – Escales Bretonnes

Design Escales Bretonnes

Design – Escales Bretonnes // Quimperlé – from june 1st to october 6th 2019

The term “design”, as used in French and often misunderstood, refers to several fields of application (graphic design, industrial design, eco-design, etc.). It is a discipline that is
constantly being re-invented. Created for and by a given society, design is the reflection of current and often futuristic trends.

Organized by the City of Quimperlé, in partnership with the European School of Art of Brittany (EESAB) and the City of Landerneau, the exhibition “Design. Escales bretonnes”
(Design. Stopovers in Brittany) deals with contemporary design challenges related to the Breton territory. Indeed, Brittany is also well-known for its creative strength and entrepreneurial spirit in the field of innovation, and particularly in the design sectors, materials and trades.

Inspired by the topography of the ria landscapes typical of the Quimperlé region, the scenography offers a panoramic view of design in Brittany. Taking the shape of islands, several stopovers divide the space into five main sections: social design, industrial design, design related to craftsmanship, eco-design, among which the maritime dimension is more
particularly highlighted, with reference to the Armorican peninsularity.

This unprecedented event, presented at the Ursulins Chapel and the Archers House, testifies to the evolution of design in Brittany in its many forms and showcases the talent, creativity
and innovative capacity of 32 contemporary designers, including the Breton designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Florence Doléac, Olivier Mourgue and Philippe Daney.

From Quimperlé to Landerneau, many stopovers will question the visitor about the close relationship that exists between creation and the economic, social and environmental
realities in which it is embedded. A new opportunity to bring together heritage and contemporary creation.
