Geologia is part of a series of exhibitions proposed by 40mcube. After Archeologia (2013), and before Animalia (2021), these exhibitions explore these exhibitions explore documented, imaginary or fantasized relationships that artists have with history, geography and living things.

Geologia brings together works by Guillaume Gouerou and Julien Loustau. Conducting scientific research for artistic purposes, Guillaume Gouerou has created a machine made from several microwave ovens, which makes it possible to create stone. Here, the artist competes with a god by artificially producing a natural element, then exploits these stones in the form of jewellery. All the elements of the production line, from the strange machine to the stones produced, from their microscope photographs to the jewellery set, are brought together in the exhibition.

This installation is seen in the light of the screening of Julien Loustau‘s film Sub. Stretching time, it takes us to the depths of the earth with the supposed exploration of Lake Vostok, a vast area of water trapped under the ice of Antarctica and isolated from the rest of the world for millions of years.

By combining the works of the two artists, Geologia creates a contemplative atmosphere and a contrasted reality, that evoke the relationships between humanity and its environment: from natural to artificial, from discovery to research, from exploitation to production.
