With the exhibition Beneath the Lawn Lie the Rubble, Thomas Portier and Manon Riet shift our gaze towards spaces often regarded as ordinary: urban wastelands, community gardens, vacant lots and suburban housing estates.

Through video, sculpture, publications and a video game, the two artists explore the relationships that emerge between humans, plants, animals and architecture.

Manon Riet‘s work focuses on the circulation of living organisms, the trajectories of plants and the stories embedded in landscapes. Taking the tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima), a species often considered invasive, as its starting point, her work examines migration, the dispersal of seeds and the transformation of territories.

Thomas Portier explores the imaginaries associated with suburban housing. By inviting visitors to adopt the perspective of a robotic lawn mower, he questions ideas of ownership, maintenance and the narratives that shape our domestic environments.

Blending documentary, fiction and speculative approaches, the exhibition invites visitors to look differently at the landscapes of everyday life.
